Detroit Symphony flutist, Amanda Blaikie, leads a public masterclass of solo and orchestral repertoire.

About Amanda Blaikie
Amanda Blaikie, known for her sparkling tone and sensitive, expressive musicality, was recently tenured as 2nd Flute of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She previously held the positions of Principal Flute with the Michigan Opera Theatre, Sarasota Opera, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, and the Miami City Ballet. Amanda has performed with orchestras including the Orlando Philharmonic, New World Symphony, and the New York Philharmonic (including a European Tour and a PBS Live from Lincoln Center television broadcast).
An avid chamber musician, Amanda performs with Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings and New Music Detroit. Amanda regularly performs recitals around the country and has twice been featured as a soloist with the Allegro Chamber Orchestra. She made her solo debut at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall in 2014 after being named a Winner of the 2013 Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition. Later this year, Amanda will be performing three Briccialdi Verdi Opera Fantasties at the 2018 National Flute Association Convention in Orlando.
Passionate about teaching and sharing her love of music, Amanda is a Flute Instructor at Oakland University and coaches advanced flutists on orchestral excerpts. She earned a Professional Studies Degree at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Robert Langevin, Principal Flutist of the New York Philharmonic. She also received a MM in Flute Performance from the University of Miami and a BA in Music from Principia College. Her additional primary flute teachers include Christine Nield-Capote, Marie Jureit-Beamish, and Jenny Robinson.
