Flutist Lance Suzuki has been consistently praised for his “gorgeous” (NY Times), “captivating” (NY Concert Review) and “mesmerizing” (NY Classical Review) performances.
Cathlyn Momohara-Ho studied flute with Jean Harling in her teens and at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with Sabrina Saiki-Mita. She has been the music teacher at Wilson Elementary School since 2015 and graduated with her Masters of Arts in Music Education in 2019.
Recently retired from the U.S. Department of Justice, Caren is eager to be one of the founding members of the Flute Society, providing others the opportunity to enjoy music and flute playing.
For Mae, playing the flute is not only a means for expression, but also an opportunity to have camaraderie with other flute players.
Rockford Holmes began his musical studies at the age of 9, beginning with the clarinet and subsequently the saxophone, oboe and flute. By the age of 15 he was playing professionally and by 19 on tour with the Eddy Howard Orchestra.
Teresa Iwashita plays piano, flute, guitar, ukulele, upright bass and dances hula, but it is the flute that she is most passionate about.
"Hawaii Flute Society is another special avenue to play with a great group of people and fine musicians. I hope I can help to make HFS a place where other flutists can play, hone their craft, and make friends."
Throughout her long musical career, Lynn enjoys mentoring flute students as a private flute instructor, and teaching beginning and intermediate school band at ʻIolani School.
Sabrina Saiki-Mita teaches flute at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Punahou Music School, and has also taught music theory, dictation, and sight-singing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has maintained a private flute studio since 1990 and has extensive experience teaching students from elementary through post-retirement.
Aoi Shinagawa began studying flute at the age of 11 with Karla Myers and continued her studies at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa with Sabrina Saiki-Mita. She received her Bachelor of Education from the university in 2019 and started her career as a public school teacher immediately after.
