 PURPOSES

  • Provide online educational resources for Hawaiʻi’s flute students.

  • Provide online educational resources for band directors, and other school music teachers, relating to flute pedagogy.

  • Increase awareness and participation in HFS activities among student flutists.

ELIGIBILITY

All public and private school music programs within the State of Hawaiʻi.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE (EXTENDED)

Directors, please kindly register by OCTOBER 1, 2021 at 11:59 PM HST.

COST TO PARTICIPATE

In the 2020-21 school year, any school music program may participate at no cost. However, for schools who are able to, we ask that you make a suggested donation to the programs of HFS as follows. Your optional donation helps us to offset the cost of activities such as our online workshops with leading flutists from around the world and sectionals with local teaching artists.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS

  • Full HFS Student Membership for all flute students enrolled in the school program, including:

    • Participation in online HFS activities including workshops with leading flutists from around the world and virtual flute choir.

    • Participation in future in-person HFS events, including flute choir and concert admission, when it becomes safe to do so.*

      *In 2021-2022, there will be no in-person Flute Festival. In its place, we plan to hold online workshops throughout the school year.

  • Exclusive activities for students of Member-Schools throughout the year, including:

    • A series of 3 private clinics for your flute section with a school coach.

    • In-person/online student oriented workshopswith local teaching artists.

BENEFITS FOR DIRECTORS & SCHOOLS

  • Directors may attend any HFS event (online/in-person) free of charge

  • Exclusive Seminar for Directors “Teaching Flute in a Mixed Ensemble Setting”

    • Led by experienced directors, who are also experienced flute teachers, this seminar provides tips and best practices for non-flutists teaching flute in a group setting such as band. Includes opportunities for Q&A.

    • Date & time TBD.

    • The seminar will be archived for directors who are unable to attend.

Additional Online Workshops for Students

Group sessions open to students of all participating schools. Dates & times TBD.
